Thank you and all the staff for making my trip so interesting, and in spite of travelling by myself, I was never alone.

This tour will take in all the major battle sites in Tunisia and some the small and out of the way actions, along with visits to the Commonwealth War Graves Cemeteries.

Day 1 – Fly to Tunis.

Day 2 – A chance to see the early clashes of the two sides on the Northern axis and also the areas where the Axis offensive ‘Oxhead’ was most successful against the First Army. Of note is the ‘last stand’ of 5 Hampshires/155th Battery Ra at Sidi Nasir and the activities of 1 Para Brigade around Tamera. We are also able to see something of the area of advance by US 2nd Corps during the final offensive. This takes place in the beautiful mountainous country of Northern Tunisia.

Day 3 – This is up and down the Mejerda Valley and is probably the scene of the most intense fighting throughout all phases of the Campaign. We get the most interesting of the early encounters, the winter line and ‘Oxhead’, and the many actions of 5th Corps during the final offensive. We get the chance to visit Longstop Hill and other sites where VCs were earned. We will also visit the CWGC Cemeteries at Medjez el Bab and Massicault.

Day 4 – This route allows us to visit the site of the parachute assault by 2 Para against Oudna and their subsequent ‘fight for survival’. The various actions of 36th Irish Brigade in the winter line and the final offensive by 9th Corps. There is also the chance to visit Turburbo Magus, a magnificent Roman city.

Day 5 – This allow us to visit the site of the Battle of Foundouk Pass; an attempt by 6th Armoured Division and US 2nd Corps to cut off the Axis withdrawal from the Wadi Akarit Line. We are then able to visit the scene of the Kasserine Pass debacle and the ‘last stand’ of 36th Armoured Brigade at Thala.

Day 6 – After visiting the sites of actions by US 2nd Corps to support the Eighth Army’s attacks against the Mareth Line, we move to the Eighth Army’s front and visit the Mareth Line itself and the site of the Battle of Medenine, which was the first action of Eighth Army in Tunisia and Rommel’s last battle in North Africa.

Day 7 – We continue with the Eighth Army’s area and go into the desert to visit the site of the battle for the Tebega Gap, which was Montgomery’s ‘left hook’ to outflank the Mareth Line. We continue with the advance of Eighth Army and visit the line at Wadi Akarit. The day ends with a visit to the CWGC Cemetery at Sfax, where four VCs are buried.

Day 8 – After a brief visit to the world famous Roman amphitheatre at El Djem, we visit the scene of Eighth Army’s final battles at Enfidaville and Takrouma. We visit the CWGC Cemetery at Enfidaville and the Free French War Cemetery at Takrouma. We will have a ‘Tunisian’ home cooked lunch on top of Takrouma Hill, the scene of bitter fighting by 2nd NZ Division, and a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole area. The night will be spent in the seaside resort town of Hammamet.

Day 9 – We will have the chance to drive through the gap at Hammam Lif, the last of the significant actions by British First Army. We will then visit the German, US and French War Cemeteries, a brief visit to the ruined city of Carthage and lunch in Sidi Bou Said, the most beautiful village in Tunisia, before driving to the airport and returning to London.
