Battlefield Tours to North Africa – Egypt and Libya Tours

 

Fully escorted and guided battlefield and war tours covering the sites of the the North African Campaign including the Desert War – Western Desert Campaign. Our battlefield tours include our 8-day Egypt tour, our 8-day Libya tour and our 9-day Tunisia tour.

 

World War 2: Egypt tour

Mersah Matruh, Halfaya Pass, Sollum, Alamein, Alexandria and Cairo

2nd –9th September

8 Days, 7 Nights

£1390.00

 

Day 1 – Departing on a scheduled flight to Cairo, we then check into our hotel.

Day 2 – We start with a visit to the Pyramids, before driving to Mersah Matruh and hotel check in.

Day 3 – We pass through Maktila, Sidi Barranio, Buq Buq covering Operation Compass, Halfaya Pass and Operation Brevity and Battleaxe, followed by a visit to Sollum - Halfaya War Cemetery.

Day 4 – We start with a visit to the Rommel Museum and, en route to Alamein, cover the battle of Mersah Metruh, and check into our hotel in Alamein.

Day 5 – Today we cover the Alamein Battle, visiting the museum, railway station, Ruiweisat Ridge, Deir el Shein, Point 63/64, Alam Halfa Ridge, the Italian Cemetery, the 9th Australian Div actions and the destruction of the Italian Sabratha Division, Tel el Eissa, before returning to our hotel.

Day 6 – Continuing the battle of Alamein, seeing Sidi Rahman Station and three VC actions, site of Rommel’s HQ, the Blockhouse, and German cemetery.

Day 7 – We drive today to Alexandria visiting Hadra and Chatby Cemeteries before driving to Cairo, where we visit the War Memorial and the War Grave Cemetery, before checking into our hotel for our last nights stay.

Day 8 – Fly Cairo to UK.

World War 2 – Libya tour

Tripoli, Benghazi and Tobruk – Tour led by Ian McLeod – visa required

5th–12th October

8 Days, 7 Nights

£1800.00

 

This historical and informative tour is being led by Ian McLeod who has an extensive knowledge of the area and the battles, both ancient and modern.

 

Day 1 – We take a morning flight to Tripoli, followed by and afternoon flight to Benghazi, where we check into our hotel and have an evening meal and a short campaign briefing.

 

Day 2 – We pay a visit to Benghazi War Cemetery and then on to the escarpment to cover the 9th Australian action, before going through Jebel Ackdar to Barce and Beyda, seeing the site of Rommel’s HQ and the action of Lt. Col. Keyes that earned him a posthumous VC. The tour then goes on to Cyrene to visit the Greco-Roman site, before checking into our hotel in Appolonia. There will be an opportunity to visit the Greco-Roman remains in the vicinity of the hotel.

 

Day 3 – Today we follow the Derna road and discuss Operation Compass, before going to Wadi Derna and Mechili and the 3rd Indian Motor Brigade stand that enabled the 9th Australian Division to withdraw and hold Tobruk. We drive across the desert to Tobruk, via Ghazala, visiting the German White House Hospital and Knightsbridge Cemetery. Overnight at our hotel in Tobruk, where we spend 4 nights.

 

Day 4 – Today we cover the Tobruk Perimiter visiting the Red line positions on the Bardia Road, the German attack of 13–14 April 1941 and the action of Pte. John Edmondson VC, before moving on to Fort Pilistrano. We then transfer to four wheel drive vehicles to visit the fig tree area, Ras el Madauur, Wadi Sahel, and the German Cemetery.

 

Day 5 – Operation Crusader in four wheel drive vehicles to El Gubi, covering the actions of 22 Armd. Brigade, the Sidi Rezegh airlfield and the three VC actions of Brig.’Jock’ Campbell, Rifleman John Beeley and 2Lt.Ward Gunn. We then cover the actions of the 2nd New Zealand Div. before moving on to Belhamed and the El Duda salient where Cpt. James Jackman and Cpt. Philip Gardener earned the VC. We end the day at Tobruk War cemetery.

 

Day 6 – The Ghazala Battle, visiting Bir Harmat via El Adem and the actions opf the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. Then by desert track to Bir Hakim and the Cauldron Battle before getting to Knightsbridge and the action of Lt. Col. Foote VC. Moving to the New Road and the battle between 2nd and 4th Armd. Brigades and the 15 Panzer Division, and the eventual fall of Tobruk.

 

Day 7 – Morning in Tobruk visiting the old HQ complex and museum and an afternoon flight back to Tripoli.

 

Day 8 – Visiting Tripoli War Cemetery, the National Museum and Old Town before a late afternoon flight back to the UK.
