WORLD WAR 1: 100th Anniversary Walking Battlefield Tour – Battle of Le Hamel
4 Days, 3 Nights
A special 100th year Anniversary Walking Tour covering the Battle of Le Hamel.
Day 1 – Depart for afternoon ferry to France, with Special Visits on route to our overnight hotel.
Day 2 – The next day we cover the history of the pioneering battle method, thought through by General Sir John Monash – using men, tanks and aircraft, they attacked the commanding position of the Wolfsberg on the eastern side of the town of Villers Brettoneux. We will walk the ground covered on the actual day 100 years ago, from the jump off positions, through the location of the German trench systems, the village of Le Hamel and on the ridge, and the capture of the position by Australian and American troops.
Day 3 – Today the tour covers the preparations for the forthcoming Advance to Victory through the old 1916 Battlefields of the Somme, covering the involvement of the Australian and Commonwealth troops and visiting the sites of the 1916 battles around Pozieres.
Day 4 – En route home on the final day of this tour we will pay Special Vsits as requested.
A rewarding and thought provoking experience. The War Research Society 'does exactly what it says on the tin'.
